The Linux Foundation Announces Third Annual Desktop Linux Survey

Survey to pinpoint developer focus for global Linux desktop adoption

SAN FRANCISCO October 17, 2007 – The Linux Foundation (LF), the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced its third annual Desktop Linux Survey, which is designed to pinpoint areas of user need in order to focus development efforts and accelerate the global adoption of Linux desktops and clients.

The 2007 Linux Desktop Survey has been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, French and Spanish in order to gain the broadest possible participation.

“The Linux Foundation enables collaboration between end users, vendors, and community developers to continually improve Linux. Past Linux Desktop Surveys allow us to capture the pulse of user need, which we can then use to guide our efforts,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. “These surveys also provide useful feedback to developers and vendors who are working on improving the Linux desktop. We expect this survey to continue this progress and look forward to hearing from Linux desktop users everywhere.”

Over the past year, the industry has seen increasing Linux desktop and client adoption, especially in Latin America and Asia, and a number of Linux desktop offerings from major computer vendors. The LF’s 2007 Survey is designed to address these trends and secure the broadest possible participation by companies, institutions and individuals throughout the world.

The 2007 Linux Desktop Survey will be conducted from October 17, 2007 - November 30, 2007. Survey results will be made publicly available shortly after it concludes. To take the survey, please visit:
